WE PUT STUDENTS FIRST

Our students must be at the forefront of every decision we make for the band - musically, logistically, financially, etc. We aim to treat students as young adults, professionals, and with respect in all interactions.

WE ARE MILITARY-STYLE MARCHERS

In seasons when marching band is our primary focus, we are committed to demonstrating and preserving the historical significance of wind bands through our military marching style. The "military style" is not in reference to our teaching methods, but to our specific methods of marching including turns, formations, instrumentation, etc.

WE SHARE STUDENTS WITH KHS ORGANIZATIONS

Sharing is exactly that, sharing. It is not one sided. We work hard to communicate, plan, and share students between KHS athletics, band and other KHS organizations.

WE BELIEVE MUSIC IS FOR EVERYONE

We intentionally strive to build musical relationships with all students at KHS including our Life Skills community. We believe that everyone has the right to make music with their friends.

WE STUDY MUSIC HOLISTICALLY

We are committed to studying music in its' entirety. We value music more when we learn its' context, content, purpose, and historical significance. Music is more than just notes and rhythms. Performances void of contextual understanding prevents our students from fully appreciating and connecting to both the music and themselves.

WE VALUE TRADITION

From individual sections, to full band procedures, we hold traditions close to the heart. We believe that traditions should evolve over time to continuously empower our current students, honor our alumni, and build upon the successful community and reputation of our band.
